Learning how to create my own website has been fun because I have not had to pay a web designer to design my websites for me. Although I can design simple html websites, I particularly enjoy it when I get to create my own website using WordPress. For this tant.co.za site we use a free WordPress theme.

WordPress is a content management system, meaning I can make my own changes and add my own new pages or photos without having to pay somebody to do that for me. I don’t need to know how to use html website design coding to manage my own WordPress-powered site.

With WordPress I simply choose a free WordPress theme from over 1 500 free WordPress themes I can get at wordpress.org, and then I register a domain, get hosting for my site, install WordPress, upload my chosen free WordPress theme and then I log into my WordPress dashboard and I start creating my website.

Registering a domain and getting hosting are my only costs – and time of course, spent on adding content to my site.

With many free WordPress themes I get to upload my own website header banner, so that immediately makes my free WordPress theme website look more unique. I can add photos, and sometimes there is the option to change the background colour or to upload an image for the background. There are also plenty of WordPress plugins and widgets to choose from, so that I can end up with quite a unique website even if others are also making use of the same free WordPree theme that I am.
