A daunting task lies ahead, but it must be done. Plans for the future of this site are mostly that we get all our content off our other sites, cancel those sites, and move all the content to just this one site.
We will feel a little sad to see some of our other sites gone, but we feel that moving all our content to just this one site is not only going to be a good move, but a move that with time and hard work will finally get us out of the rut we’re in -plans for the future of this site, that after hard work, will be so rewarding.
With a lot of content on this site – content that we already have in existence on our other sites (so not content that still has to be written) – there will be many phrases that Google and other search engines will pick up on when people look for information on the Internet, and that Google and other search engines will display in their search results, preferably on page one of search results.
More traffic coming to our site means benefits for us:
a)
more people will see the services we offer, and the products we sell
b)
when there is a lot of traffic coming to a site, people are happy to pay good prices to advertise on that site
We have the content – now just to get it all on to this one site!
The plans for the future of this site, and the hard work that goes with these plans for the future – our future – is a huge job!
We plan to have sections or parts of the site dedicated to certain areas or to sites we used to have (sites that we still have, but that we will no longer have once we have moved their content to this site) – and we are probably going to put these sections into categories of the blog part of this site.
Everything new posted (as a blog post, not a new page) will get categorized as “blog” and also as whichever other blog category we assign to a particular post. Some of those categories will be named after sites we used to have, or even some of the categories we used to have on those sites.
We are thinking of having a page that details what each category is about, with each of these sort of pages also displaying a link to the latest posts in that category. That link would take people to pages of summaries of the most recent posts in that category – about 4 or 5 or so titles of the latest blog posts, per page of summaries, and the first line or two of text of each blog post, with a “read more” (or something like that) link to take people to the entire story or article.
We’re excited at the thought of having tons of content on just one site, and what that could do for us. What is tons of content? Well, we haven’t added up all the pages yet, note to self: do so sometime soon! but we think it is at least 300 pages. And of course, we’ll be adding more pages over time, too – which will be easier and less traumatic then, than trying to decide which site should get a new page of content. Spreading ourselves a little thinly over all our sites is finally going to be laid to rest, and all our new content will be added to just this site, further increasing our traffic, and thus, ultimately, our income.
It is terribly frustrating that we cannot devote weeks and weeks to this, or even find the time to devote much time in any one day to this new project, because the sooner we get all the content moved over, the sooner our income can increase. The reason why we cannot yet devote too much time to it is because while doing the moving of the content, we’re not earning anything. Being freelancers means that if we’re not working for somebody, or spending time making products and spending time selling those products, we don’t earn anything. We don’t have money saved up to tide us over for weeks while we work at our plans for the future of this site.
However, the prospect of what a frequently visited site could likely mean to us, makes this one project we are determined to work at whenever we get a chance to.
